|On February 10, at the 55th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, American singer Renée Fleming's album "Poèmes" won for Best Classical Vocal Solo. |
The album features Saito Kinen Festival Director Seiji Ozawa conducting the Orchestre National De France in Henri Dutilleux's Le temps l'horloge, a piece co-commissioned by Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto and originally premiered in 2007 at the festival in Matsumoto, Japan as conducted by Seiji Ozawa. This version features two new movements, conducted by Ozawa in Paris.
In commemoration of the occasion, Seiji Ozawa prepared the following message for Renée Fleming:
|Bravo Renée! Bravo Maestro Dutilleux! I'm so pleased that a work that received its world premiere in Matsutmoto with Renée Fleming has garnered such a wonderful award. Renée deeply heartfelt performance at the Festival in 2007 was truly moving, and I can still recall the superlative playing of the members of the Saito Kinen Orchestra. I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to manager Vony Sarfati, who aided in bringing the piece to the public.|
Congratulations Renée! Please come again to Matsumoto to sing with your friends at Saito Kinen.
