About the event

This parade event has been taking place every year since the first Festival, to welcome the Festival and involve Matsumoto citizens. All performers wear the same polo shirt with their own group's design. Participants count over 3,000, which consist of not only musicians from brass bands and wind bands of elementary & junior high schools of Matsumoto and other cities, adults' groups of wind ensemble, but also members from boy scouts and girl scouts. Also, a "mikoshi (= portable shrine that is carried in parade at Japanese traditional festivals)" joins the parade.
When all the groups have arrived at Matsumoto Castle, their joint performance starts. At the end of the performance, all the participants and audience sing together the song of Nagano Prefecture, "Shinano no Kuni" (Nagano's traditional song).
